Customer approached Windward Construction through Kitchen Solvers of Boulder County and inquired as to some solutions for custom lighting in their kitchen remodel.  The existing kitchen was removed and the existing canister lights were fitted to match the new layout of the kitchen with a new 3-way switch system.  Electric Range circuit was moved and microwave circuit was moved.  A new circuit was added for new kitchen island and convenience receptacles were re-wired in kitchen.  CATV and phone was reconfigured for kitchen.  New undercabinet lighting was installed throughout kitchen and new low voltage monorail system was installed whose curvature matched the contours of the custom made 'piano' shaped island granite slab.

The customer approached Windward Construction with a request to update the lighting in the kitchen.  The existing lighting was a surface mounted wooden box with three fluorescent fixtures inside of it.  The customer complained about the quality of light and the fact that it had been falling apart, knocking him on the head!

The customer asked Windward Construction about different lighting options.  Ideas were brought up which included undercabinet lighting, above cabinet lighting and recessed canister lighting for the ceiling.  It was determined that canister lighting was to be installed and the lay-out and designed was discussed.  Below you will see the proposed install which is approved by customer before any actual installation begins.

The customer approved the installation and the work began.  During the course of the work, a section of drywall was removed in order to drill through the joists and install wiring necessary to connect the lighting to the existing switch leg.  It was discovered that existing ductwork prevented the installation of recessed canister lighting above the peninsular countertop.  Instead, pendant lights were installed on a separate switch (which was fished in to existing switch box with no additional drywall damage) and existing 3-gang box was removed and replaced with 4-gang box to accommodate new switch for pendants.  Dimmer switches were installed on all new lighting.
